October 24, 2008Metrolink files lawsuit against Chatsworth engineer’s employer
One month after the deadly Chatsworth train crash, Metrolink has filed a train accident lawsuit against the company that provides the engineers that operate its trains. The engineer driving the Metrolink train involved in the accident is believed to have been sending and receiving text messages just seconds before it collided with an oncoming freight train. A total of 25 people were killed and 135 more injured as a result of the collision, making it one of the deadliest train accidents in the last two decades. Some legal experts believe that damages from the Chatsworth train wreck could approach $200 million.
Metrolink’s train collision lawsuit against Connex Railroad LLC alleges that the company is liable for the Chatsworth train accident. According to the company’s contract with Metrolink, Connex agreed to assume all liability stemming from acts involving “willful misconduct” on the part of its employees.
