Federal safety investigators have warned rail transit operators nationwide to check for problems with automatic train detection systems that could lead to railroad accidents. July 26, 2009 Residents seek class action status for toxic exposure from Ohio railroad crash

Attorneys representing a group of Ohio residents in their train accident lawsuit against the CSX railroad company are expected to seek class action status on behalf of hundreds who were affected by an October 2007 crash. Approximately 1,300 residents of Mentor and Painesville, Ohio were evacuated from their homes when a CSX train crashed and spilled several toxic chemicals near its tracks. Read more...

Four former railroad workers have filed a lawsuit against five railroad companies who they alleged caused them to be exposed to asbestos and develop asbestosis. The lawsuit was filed under the Federal Employees Liability Act, which is designed to protect railroad workers who are injured on the job. Four former railroad workers have filed lawsuits against the companies where they worked, alleging that they were exposed to a number of toxic substances on the job, including asbestos.
